Situated in the heart of Germany, Bielefeld is the centre of Eastern Westphalia. More than
300,000 inhabitants live in the green city at the foot of the Teutoburger Wald , a range of
wooded hills, and enjoy the advantages of industry and trade combined with the benefits of parks,
open spaces and 4,800 hectares of forest. The older parts, including the medieval castle high up
over the town, bear witness to its long history, while the bustling centre, with its modern
stores and many cafes and restaurants, reveals Bielefeld's role as a regional metropolis.
Cultural life and leisure facilities are varied: from theatres, art galleries and cinemas to
excellent opportunities for sports and dancing, walking or just sitting in a beer garden.
There is plenty to do when you are not studying!
